About Pisgah's Outlook Publications

Pisgah's Outlook Publications was started by Jeremy Kerr in 2015 as an effort to publish and distribute Christian literature for the edification of brethren, and for the gathering of God's elect out of the darkness of this present evil age.  For many years Jeremy had already facilitated the publishing of literature on behalf of The Covenanted Reformed Presbyterian Church.  These efforts represent an agenda to preserve the scriptural and catholick unity of Christ's church within the context of sound theology and the historic Christian piety now often termed "Puritan."  Sometimes it is helpful to contrast this with other ideas and practice, but to be brief we may say simply that it consists in a careful adherence to the full original Westminster Confession of Faith and other standards of belief and practice from the Second Reformation. (1638-1649.)

The name "Pisgah" occurs a few times in the Old Testament, referring to various hills or mountains.  Perhaps most memorable is the "mountain of Nebo... the top of Pisgah" ascended by Moses just before his death.  Though Moses was denied the privilege of entering the promised land with the tribes of Israel, it was here at the top of Pisgah that Moses was granted the privilege of a miraculous vision of the whole of that land to be inherited by the Lord's people, which was promised long before to the patriarch Abraham.  While others had yet to look forward to many obstacles, and much contending against the condemned peoples of a land whose idolatry had led to hopeless hardness in multiplied transgression, Moses was given the sight of that glorious inheritance the Lord had sworn to deliver, as what really lay beyond all doubt or difficulty for him.

Wonderfully more blessed is the final rest of God's people, as we see this presented to us in the book of Revelation, chapters 21 & 22.  There we find a remarkable hint of the eternal glory enjoyed by the redeemed of the Lord.  But there is also another vision we find pleasant from the Mt. Pisgah of our believing meditation upon the promises of Holy Scripture.  That is the fair age described in Revelation 20, when Satan is bound for 1000 years, and no longer able to deceive the nations.  Our mission is not specifically about promoting eschatological writings, but it is with respect to a millennium (before the return of Christ,) during which the great commission prospers throughout the world, that we find abundant motivation for adhering to the message and authority of holy scripture as needful and relevant to all men.  The Bible may be allowed to tell us its own purpose, which we find to include both the revelation of the only salvation for sinful men, and also an authoritative plan for putting in order the lives of men, of families, of churches, of cities, and of nations.  Through the 1500s and 1600s the Gospel prospered in the reforming and restoring of national churches, and nations themselves.  This same Gospel, we are confident, will yet effect greater wonders more extensively through the earth.  Darkness has been driven away before, and darkness will be driven away by the light yet again.

Faith's outlook even in this age of degenerate morals, the disestablishment of Christianity throughout the nations, and the cancerous effects of nationalized-sectarianism in the professing Church of Christ, is yet notwithstanding an outlook of glory and comforting expectation.  We do not expect Amorites, Hitites, and Canaanites to prevail forever in corrupting the inheritance of the nations given to our Lord Jesus Christ. (Eph. 1.21-22, Col. 1.16, Matt. 28.18.)  We expect Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Swiss, Chinese, and others all to be undeceived, when it pleases the Lord to bring the hearts and minds of men and nations into cheerful subjection to his Law and Gospel.

"But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
"And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
"And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more."

Micah 4:1-3.
